Smart Heating Plan — Residential Case Study
Home Sense designed and implemented a room-by-room heating plan using smart thermostats, A/C & boiler switches
and optional TRVs. The result: comfortable temperatures, sensible schedules and reliable local control — with
simple wall interfaces plus app/voice access.
Residential (apartment/villa)
Greater Cairo, Egypt
Smart thermostat(s), A/C & boiler switch, optional TRVs, scenes & app/voice
Objective
Improve comfort and cut wasted heating hours with a zoning plan that’s easy to use and works with existing finishes.
Constraints
- Retain existing wall boxes where possible (retrofit friendly).
- Mixed systems (boiler + radiators; some split A/C in bedrooms).
- Must operate core functions even if the internet drops.
Approach
- Zigbee hub for reliable local scenes; Wi-Fi where appropriate.
- Schedules with sensible setbacks (Night/Away) and quick overrides.
- Voice shortcuts (Alexa) on compatible models.
Zoning & Devices
- Smart Thermostat for primary living zone.
- Smart A/C & Boiler Switch for equipment control.
- TRVs (Thermostatic Radiator Valves) for room-level temperature (optional).
- Zigbee/Wi-Fi hub to coordinate schedules and scenes.
Schedules & Scenes
- Comfort: Morning/Evening temperatures in living areas.
- Night: Setback for bedrooms and common areas.
- Away: Lower setpoint; resume on arrival/scene change.
Installation & Programming Process
Outcome
Consistent comfort with fewer manual adjustments. Heating runs when needed and idles when not, with local fallback
control if the internet is down.
