Who we are

HomeSense (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates the website https://homesense-me.com (the “Site”) and provides smart-home products and services to customers primarily in Egypt and the wider MENA region. For the purposes of Egypt’s Personal Data Protection Law No. 151 of 2020 (“Egyptian PDPL”), HomeSense is the data controller of personal data collected via the Site and our offline channels. Our main contact details are listed at the end of this policy and on our Contacts page. :contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0}

Scope

This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, how we use and share it, our legal bases under the Egyptian PDPL, how we protect it, and your rights. It applies to the Site, our e-commerce features, contact forms, customer support channels, and marketing communications. If you access our Site from the European Economic Area (EEA) or UK, additional GDPR/UK GDPR rights may also apply as noted below (we provide these for transparency, but our primary legal framework is the Egyptian PDPL). :contentReference[oaicite:1]{index=1}

  • Identifiers & contact details (name, email, phone, billing/shipping address) when you place an order, request a quotation, or contact us.
  • Commercial data (orders, invoices, service/installation records, warranty claims).
  • Support communications (messages you send via our contact forms or email; for Contact Form 7 submissions we receive your message by email; by default the plugin does not store messages in the WordPress database unless add-ons such as Flamingo are enabled). :contentReference[oaicite:3]{index=3}
  • Technical data (IP address, device/browser type, pages viewed, referring/exit pages, and similar diagnostics) collected via cookies and similar technologies for security, performance, and analytics.
  • Account & payment information if you create an account or purchase through our shop. Payment card data is processed by our payment partners and is not stored on our servers.
  • Marketing preferences (opt-in/opt-out records, email engagement).

Children’s data

Our Site and services are not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children without appropriate consent as required by the Egyptian PDPL. If you believe a child has provided personal data to us, please contact us so we can delete it.

How and why we use personal data

  • To provide products and services: process orders, deliver goods, schedule and perform installations, manage warranties, respond to support requests.
  • Safety & security: prevent fraud and abuse, secure our Site and systems, and comply with legal obligations.
  • Customer support & communications: respond to enquiries, send service notices (e.g., appointment confirmations, updates, and invoices).
  • Improvement & analytics: understand Site usage and improve content, navigation, and performance (see “Cookies & analytics”).
  • Marketing: send offers and updates with your consent; you can withdraw consent at any time (see “Your rights”). Under the Egyptian PDPL, electronic direct marketing requires prior consent and an easy way to opt out. :contentReference[oaicite:5]{index=5}

Our legal bases (Egyptian PDPL)

  • Consent: for electronic marketing and certain cookies/analytics.
  • Contract: to fulfil a purchase, provide installation/after-sales services, and respond to pre-contract enquiries.
  • Legal obligation: to keep accounting/tax records, respond to lawful requests.
  • Legitimate interests: to secure our Site, prevent fraud, and measure service effectiveness—balanced against your rights. :contentReference[oaicite:6]{index=6}

Cookies & analytics

We use first-party and third-party cookies (and similar technologies like pixels) to operate the Site, remember preferences, analyze performance, and—if you consent—support marketing. If we use analytics services (for example, Google Analytics), those providers may set their own cookies to help us measure how the Site is used; you can typically opt out via your browser controls or our cookie banner where available. We aim to respect applicable consent requirements for non-essential cookies. :contentReference[oaicite:7]{index=7}

Comments, media & embedded content

  • Comments: When visitors leave comments (if enabled), we collect the data shown in the form as well as the commenter’s IP address and browser user-agent to help with spam detection. If you use Gravatar, an anonymized hash of your email may be sent to check if you have a Gravatar profile; after approval, your profile image may be publicly visible next to your comment. See Automattic’s privacy policy for Gravatar. :contentReference[oaicite:8]{index=8}
  • Uploaded media: Avoid uploading images with embedded EXIF GPS location data; other visitors could download and extract location data from images on the Site.
  • Embedded content: Articles may include embedded content (e.g., videos, social posts). Embedded content from other websites behaves as if you visited those sites directly and may collect data, use cookies, and track your interaction with the embedded content.

E-commerce & payments

If you purchase via our online shop, we collect order details, contact and delivery information, and any configuration notes you provide. Payments are processed by third-party payment processors; your payment card details are transmitted directly to them and are not stored on our servers. Those providers act as independent controllers or processors of your payment data under their own privacy policies, which we recommend you review on the checkout page before submitting payment.

Contact forms & customer support

Our contact forms (built with Contact Form 7) send your message to us by email; by default, the plugin does not store submissions in our WordPress database. If we later enable archiving (e.g., via the Flamingo add-on) we will update this section and state the retention period. We may also store your message in our email system or CRM to manage your enquiry and maintain service records. :contentReference[oaicite:9]{index=9}

Sharing your data

  • Service providers who perform services for us (e.g., hosting, payment processing, installers/technicians for on-site work, logistics). They are contractually bound to protect your data and use it only for the services they provide to us.
  • Legal compliance & protection: we may disclose information to comply with laws, lawful requests, or to protect our rights, users, or the public.
  • Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, subject to appropriate safeguards.

International transfers

We may transfer personal data outside Egypt (for example, to global service providers for hosting, support, analytics, or payments). Under the Egyptian PDPL, cross-border transfers generally require a license/permit from the competent Data Protection Center or a recognized adequacy/safeguard; we implement transfer mechanisms permitted by law and obtain required approvals or consents as applicable.

Data retention

  • Orders & invoices: retained as required by accounting/tax law (typically a number of years) and to manage warranties/after-sales service.
  • Contact enquiries: retained for up to 24 months unless we need to keep them longer to resolve an issue or comply with law.
  • Marketing records: kept until you withdraw consent or object; we store minimal data needed to respect your opt-out.
  • Technical logs: retained for security and troubleshooting, typically for up to 12 months, unless a longer period is needed to investigate incidents.

Security

We use technical and organizational measures appropriate to the risk, including TLS encryption in transit, hardened hosting, access controls, and regular maintenance. No system is perfectly secure; if we discover a data breach that may harm your privacy, we will notify the competent authority and affected individuals as required by the Egyptian PDPL. (Under the PDPL framework, controllers must notify the authority of certain breaches within short timeframes and notify individuals where risks warrant it.) :contentReference[oaicite:11]{index=11}

Your rights

Under the Egyptian PDPL, you have rights such as: to be informed about processing; to access and obtain a copy of your personal data; to request correction, update, or deletion; to object or restrict certain processing; to withdraw consent; and to complain to the competent Data Protection Center. We will honor your requests in accordance with the law and subject to applicable exceptions (e.g., where retention is required by law).

EEA/UK visitors: where GDPR/UK GDPR applies, you may have additional rights including data portability and the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority; we rely on consent, contract, legal obligation, and legitimate interests as applicable legal bases for processing. :contentReference[oaicite:13]{index=13}

How to exercise your rights

You can submit a request by emailing info@homesense-me.com with the subject line “Privacy Request”. Please include your name, contact details, the right you wish to exercise, and any relevant reference (e.g., order number). We may need to verify your identity before acting on the request. We will respond within the timelines required by law. :contentReference[oaicite:14]{index=14}

Direct marketing

We only send electronic marketing where we have your consent. You can withdraw consent at any time by using the unsubscribe link in our emails or by contacting us. We maintain a suppression list to ensure we respect your opt-out choices. :contentReference[oaicite:15]{index=15}

Third-party links

Our Site may link to third-party websites, plug-ins, and services. We are not responsible for their privacy practices. We encourage you to read their privacy notices.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our practices, technologies, legal requirements, or other factors. If we make material changes, we will post an updated policy on this page with a new “last updated” date; we may also take additional steps as required by law.
